Houston 2013 NFL Draft

In this years draft their biggest pick up for the Houston Texans was DeAndre Hopkins, a wide receiver out of Clemson. This guy might be the big play spark they needed last year. This guy can play ball and too see him on the field will be fun to watch. They also did a good job by getting some talented offensive linemen, such as Brennan Williams out of Louisiana State, and David Quessenberry out of San Jose State. These guys can end up filling key roles on the offensive line as well as possibly starting later this year.

The Texans didn’t do so bad, they could have enhanced their team buy picking up some pass rushers. That could have helped out their defense. There is some talk about David Quessenberry being a waste of time and money. I personally think he is a good pick for the team in the long run but in the short term he might have been a risky pick.

In the end the Texans picked up nine players in this years draft. First round pick was DeAndre Hopkins, Second Round pick was D.J. Swearinger, Third round was Brennan Williams and Sam Montgomery, in the Fourth round Trevardo Williams, and in the sixth round they picked up four players, David Quessenberyy, Alan Bonner, Chris Jones, and lastly Ryan Griffin.

Our Texans Blog has a new home

Our Houston Texans blog has a new home. We are excited to officially merge with Team-Superstore.com today. Click here for our new Texans Blog Home Page.

The Texans have been one of the most consistent teams in the NFL the last few season. Will this finally be the season they get over the hump? With a solid defense, a star running back, a stud receiver and a serviceable quarterback, there is no reason to think the Texans can not make a run at the Super Bowl. If the Texans can add a second receiver through the draft to pair with Andre Johnson and if Matt Schaub can elevate his game to the next level, the Texans could become the team to beat in the AFC.

Houston, We Have A Contender

Promising pre-season expectations for the Houston Texans were lived up to for the most part in the 2012- 2013 season to the relief of those who had enough faith to place a bet on them. The once lowly Texans climbed out of the cellar of the AFC South last season capturing their first playoff win in team history with a rout of the Cincinnati Bengals 31-10, and with super stars on both sides of the ball; the likes of Arian Foster, Andre Johnson, Brian Cushing, and J.J. Watt, the sky was the limit for the potential of this team in 2012. Upon finishing the season with a 12-4 the Texans were bounced out of the playoffs by the New England Patriots 41-28. Leading up to the 2013-2014 season the expectations will be just as high and barring any injuries such as the ones to QB Matt Schuab in 2011 and Pro Bowl LB Brian Cushing in 2012 the Texans are a real contender.
The current odds for the 2013-2014 have the Texans as a 10-1 favorite to win the 2013-2014 Super Bowl which places them in the middle of the upper tier of favorites in 2013 behind the Patriots at 6-1, 49ers at 7-1, Broncos at 8-1 and tied with the Packers who are also at 10-1, all viable contenders in their own right.
One thing is for sure and that is these odds are going to change and underdogs are going to throw their hats into the race, so you best keep up with who’s hot and who’s not at the local bookies. Nowadays this can be done online along with the many other forms of online gambling such as online casinos which are great for sports bettors looking to kill some time in between seasons, or even at half-time. These casinos offer a full range of casino games in smartphone apps which can be played anywhere. The online casino industry has also started to offer sports-themed slots games which add to the enjoyment for sports fans, although there are also the other games you may expect to find in a casino – craps, blackjack and more. Have a look at http://www.mobilecasino.mobi where you can check out listings of the very best places to play casino games from anywhere from the convenience of your mobile phone, why wouldn’t you want to play your game, pick your odds, and have some fun all in the palm of your hand?

Big Game

The Texans are considered by many to be the NFL’s best team. With a night game in front of the whole country, they now have a chance to showcase their skills against another very good team.

10-6

The Texans were 10-6 last year and will go 10-6 this year. They lost some players, but their division is so terrible that they can win at least four out of those six games.

Houston, What’s the Problem?

Oh, Houston Texans… When will you fulfill your potential and actually make the playoffs? When will you finally beat the Colts, the gold standard in your division? When will you stop choking games away?

All of these questions are likely to persist this year, unless something new is in the water down in Texas. The Texans haven’t really improved their team in any significant area for this year. Matt Schaub is still their quarterback. Yes, he is a fantasy players’ dream. Andre Johnson is still their wide receiver, and an excellent one at that. They still have Steve Slaton, who vastly underachieved last year after having a breakout year prior to last season. Beyond these three cornerstones, the Texans don’t have much else. Mario Williams anchors the defense that is young and inexperienced.

This team is just average in every sense of the word. That’s the bottom line. In every defensive category they were in the middle of the pack. In addition, there are too many question marks. Who is their number two receiver? I have absolutely no idea. Can their defense sustain a good offense? And what the hell are they doing with Matt Leinart?

Time will tell how well these guys will do this year. My bet is another 9-7 year, another missed opportunity to miss the playoffs. Call me if you see something different, but my mind is made up.

Cushing denies banned substance use

Houston Texans linebacker Brian Cushing said Thursday he never used any banned substances even though he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Cushing was suspended for four games without pay last week for violating the NFL’s drug policy. His appeal was denied.

Cushing confirmed he tested positive for HCG, a fertility drug that is on the league’s banned substance list.

“The question of how it got into my body is still unclear,” he said. “It’s something that I’m very personally concerned about, just the fact that how it’s there and what’s going to determine it from happening again, and that’s something we’re going to have to medically investigate.”

He said that after failing the test, he was told HCG can get in your body from injecting it or because of tumors. He said this information led him to believe he had tumors. He did not say what kind of tumors.

“I personally know I’m not injecting myself with anything,” he said. “I played the whole season thinking this could not only be my last season, but my last year.”

Texans Owner: ‘Right Now I Have A Coach’

The Texans’ performance in their last five games will determine the fate of coach Gary Kubiak and his assistants.

Owner Bob McNair is disappointed in the 5-6 record, the three-game losing streak and their inability to win close games. He hasn’t given up on the season, and, as always, he’ll evaluate Kubiak after the season.

“Right now, I have a coach,” McNair said Tuesday. “Since I have a coach, and I haven’t made any decisions to replace my coach, I’m not even thinking about anybody else. I’m just thinking about winning this next game against Jacksonville.”

The Texans play Jacksonville, Seattle and St. Louis in their next three games. They close against Miami and New England.

“This is a critical time,” McNair said. “My true feeling is we have our best chance of developing a winning team with Gary as opposed to someone else, at this point in time. Making a change is very disruptive.

“This is a critical time. I want to see how Gary manages it. In the past, he’s managed it very well when his back’s been against the wall. I hope he will now because I think he’s very sound.
