Our Steelers Blog has a new home

Our Pittsburgh Steelers blog has a new home. We are excited to officially merge with Team-Superstore.com today. Click here for our new Steelers Blog Home Page.

The Steelers are another year older, coming off a 8-8 season and will be without the services of Mike Wallace, Rashard Mendenhall and James Harrison. Any other franchise would be panicking right now, but the Steelers are confident they can plug in new players and hopefully stay healthy. The Ravens are coming off a Super Bowl victory, and the Browns and the Bengals are young and improving, which could lead to a rough season by Steelers standards. Ben Roethlisberger and Troy Polamalu will have to play in peak form for the Steelers to return to the playoffs after last season’s absence.

Highlights of Super Bowl 2013

The 2013 Super Bowl proved to be a typically exciting contest for American football enthusiasts – culminating in a victory for the Baltimore Ravens over the San Francisco 49ers. The final score of 34-31 to the Ravens shows how exciting the game was, as the 49ers pegged their opponents back after getting off to an absolutely horrendous start, but their fight back proved to be in vain. Now that the Super Bowl is over for another year, fans of the game and betting on it will once more be looking for alternative ways of indulging these passions – like the NFL slots at online casino sites. Before this though, there is still time to look back at some of the highlights.
Certainly one incident in the game that will count as a real highlight for Ravens fans, and neutrals, was the spectacular 56-yard catch and touchdown by Jacoby Jones, during the period in the match when the Ravens were dominant. It was the only reception that Jones managed during the match, but the eye-catching nature of it, combined with the fact that it gave the Ravens a 21-3 advantage, makes it one of the big highlights of the game. However it wasn’t the only high point for the Ravens – or Jones – in the game, as the 108-yard Kick Return touchdown the same player scored matched the NFL record. It was the second time in the season that Jones had produced a touchdown from a 108-yard Kick Return this season, and put the Ravens 28-6 in front.
Of course there were high points from the 49ers as they battled back, but the Ravens stole the glory. Now, with the contest over betting fans will need to turn their attentions to other forms of online gambling and to be honest there’s no shortage of alternatives. Online casinos have catered for sports fans during the off-season by developing slot games like $5 Million Touchdown, mixing NFL and gambling along with many different sports themes – have a look at http://paddypowerapp.com to see what we mean. Games like this slot, which features American football symbols like footballs, cheerleaders, kicks and throws, and a bonus game that requires the gamer to pass the ball from one player to another to try and score a touchdown, might not be quite as exciting as the actual Super Bowl, but still makes a great alternative option. Many sports fans opt for card games however, where it is more a game of skill – the dealer vs. the bettor as opposed to the bettor vs. Lady Luck.

Weird Season

The Steelers finally look like they are crumbling. Every year, many predict age to catch up with them. But now, it looks like it could finally cost them a playoff spot.

The Steelers were 12-4 last year and will go 10-6 this year. They are just simply getting old.

Big Ben Blows Oppurtunity

Nearly one month after failing to win there record seventh Super Bowl; Pittsburgh Steelers fans are still trying to figure out what went wrong! The Steelers lost a tight game but the outcome could have been much different. The Steelers have no one to blame but their coach Mike Tomlin and their quarterback Ben Rothlisberger. Coach Tomlin’s decision to run 23 times and pass 40 was mind-blowing. Rashard Mendenhall was gashing the Green Bay Packers with big runs that were wearing down the defensive line and giving the Steelers momentum during their comeback. But in the end Tomlin leaned on his quarterback and Rothlisberger failed him.
Rothlisberger’s two interceptions that lead to 14 Packer points was the difference in the game, but it was more then the interceptions that killed the Steelers it was the bad decision making of Rothlisberger that did them in. All you have to do is fast forward to the last drive of the game, the Steelers were down six with two minutes left and Rothlisberger seemed poised to pull of another super miracle. However the last three plays you would think a rookie quarterback was in the game. On 2nd and 5 Rothlisberger called a play for wide receiver Mike Wallace who clearly had no idea what the play was, Rothlisberger threw the pass out of bounds leading to a 3rd and 5. Again big Ben called Wallace’s number and again the wide receiver seemed lost on the route leading to another incomplete pass leading to 4th and 5. This whole time never once did Rothlisberger look to veteran wide receiver Hinds Ward who is one of the best route runners in the NFL. So on 4th and 5 big Ben called Wallace’s number and to all Packer fans delight Wallace was lost on the route and the Super Bowl was lost for the Steelers.

Identity Crisis Case File: Pittsburgh Steelers

This should be an interesting year for the men in black and yellow. Big Ben Roethlisberger is gone for the first four games as opposed to six. Byron Leftwich, who was supposed to be the back-up, injured himself. So that leaves the young Dennis Dixon to start for the Steelers. Dixon is a quick, but raw quarterback. The Steelers knew what they were getting in Roethlisberger, but with Dixon anything goes.

I love Coach Mike Tomlin saying the quarterback position is still up for grabs once Ben comes back. Bull. Do you honestly believe Dixon will be a consistently productive quarterback? At best the Steelers go 3-1 during Ben’s absence, and that’s a stretch.

The Steelers will most assuredly get back to their trademark running game, especially with Dixon at the helm. Rashard Mendenhall had a good year last year, but one wonders how effective he will be this year as the Steelers don’t have a legitimate passing threat. They could become predictable. Hines Ward, Antwaan Randle El, Heath Miller, and Mike Wallace will have to step up their games this year to make Dixon’s job easier in the absence of Santanio Holmes bolting for the Jets.

Defense should be tops in the league once more for this talented group consisting of Lamarr Woodley, James Harrison, James Farrior, Troy Palamalu, and Ike Taylor to name a few. They were third in rushing yards allowed last year. Expect that to continue.

Overall, the gauge of success for this team will be defined by how well Dixon handles his time in the spotlight and how Big Ben fares in his return. I still think the division is too formidable for this year’s Steelers. They will finish third in the AFC North at 9-7.

Losing Rothlisberger Will Hurt The Steelers Playoff Hopes

The AFC North is going to be a tough division this season. The Bengals and Ravens are both expected to have great teams. The Steelers are kind of up in the air and the Browns have improved a little as well. Who will finish at the top of the division? Read on to find out.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers: The Steelers cleaned house last season, proving to the league that they won’t stand up for misconduct off the field, no matter how good the player is. Santonio Holmes was the Steelers up and coming wide receiver until he ran into trouble with the law last season that prompted the Steelers to trade him to the Jets. Ben Rothlisberger was also involved in suspicion to sexual assault during the off-season. Rothlisberger had trouble in the past being suspected of sexual assault in 2009 also. The Steelers had enough, rumors were flying around that the Steelers were trying to trade Rothlisberger, but it never happened. Rothlisberger will be suspended for up to six games starting this season, which will greatly hurt the Steelers chances at making it to the playoffs. Byron Leftwich was picked up by the Steelers to fill in for Rothlisberger while he’s suspended.
I expect the Steelers to run the ball a lot with Rashard Mendenhall starting for the first time this year. Mendenhall will help the Steelers compete in the first half of the season, but the Steelers also have to pass the ball and the only weapon they are left with is the aging Hines Ward. Second year starter Mike Wallace might break out with his speed and prove to be an up and coming big name receiver. Then there is tight end Heath Miller, Miller is one of the best tight ends in the league, but since Holmes left the team Miller may not be as open as he as in the past.
The Steelers strong point has always been their defense and the same remains true this season. Led by strong safety, Troy Polamalu, James Farrior at middle line backer, Lamarr Woodley and James Harrison on the outside, and Ike Taylor leading the cornerbacks. The Steelers will again have one of the best defenses in the league, probably second behind the Jets. Their defense may help the Steelers make their games close while Rothlisberger is out. I think the Steelers will finish their season at 8-8.

Tomlin talks regularly with his QB

The Pittsburgh Steelers are working closely with troubled quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to make sure he turns his life around, although coach Mike Tomlin didn’t offer any specifics Wednesday about what the team is doing.

Tomlin said he talks regularly with Roethlisberger, who recently underwent a behavioral evaluation as part of the six-game suspension handed down April 21 by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.

“He has a commitment to being what we desire for him to be and what his team needs him to be and that’s my focus,” Tomlin said. “I’ve seen Ben quite a bit and communicated with him quite a bit throughout all of this.”

Roethlisberger was suspended after a 20-year-old Georgia college student accused him of sexual assault in March. No charges were filed.

Roethlisberger is also being sued by a woman who claims he sexually assaulted her at a Lake Tahoe hotel in 2008 but faces no charges.

Steelers, Roethlisberger Await Goodell's Ruling

Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers are waiting for NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s ruling on whether the quaterback will face disciplinary action from the league. League sources believe that Goodell will suspend Roethlisberger for at least two games this season. Roethlisberger’s possible suspensions stem from two sexual assault accusations in the past year and a half. Although the Steelers star has not been charged with a crime in the wake of these accusations, Roger Goodell has stated that Roethilsberger did break the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

While Ben Roethlisberger may be a free man, it seems that he has alot of work to do to repair his image and win back the fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Many seem to be done with the off field issues that have plauged Roethlisberger, and some believe that the Steelers should trade or release the quaterback who has led the team to two Super Bowl wins. While it is expected that the Steelers keep Roethlisberger, they did trade troubled wide reciever and former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes, dumping Roethlisberger would not be a complete shock.
