Robert Griffin III exploded his rookie season and led his team to the playoffs. Unfortunately he injured his ACL and could take six or more months to recover. If RGIII is able to return to full health in 2013 the team will be prepared to improve on their success from last season. With a deep receiver core including Santana Moss, Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan the Redskins have all the makings of an explosive offense.

Betting tips on the Redskins

Wow what a difference has it been for the Washington Redskins from the 2011-12 to 2012-13 seasons. The odds the Washington Redskins were to make it to Superbowl at the start of the season was 50 to 1 and a lot of people toward the end of the regular season this year thought that was a possibility of actually happening. The Redskins record in 2011-12 season was 5 wins and 11 losses. Fast forward to the 2012-13 season and they finished with 10 wins and 6 losses and were one of the hottest teams going into the playoffs. Against the spread in 2012-13 season the Redskins were 11-5 which was very impressive. Rookie star quarterback Robert Griffin III was a huge reason why. Along with fellow rookie stud Albert Morris at running back. Griffin was explosive both with his legs as well as his strong arm and accuracy. Some opinions out there say Albert Morris should have been Rookie of the year. It’s a tough call when you have the number 2 overall pick in the draft on your team and it is a QB in the QB driven NFL. Griffin played incredible throughout the season and the Redskins are posed to have another nice year next year. The odds to win the Superbowl is 30 to 1 which means if you bet $100 you will get a nice little payout of $3000. I am sure this sounds tempting to some of you out there especially given how the team played at the end of the year.

If you can’t make your mind up about which bets to place or are simply looking for some sporting action while sitting at home on your computer, there are alternatives to betting at the bookies. Concussion

RG3 should not be playing with his recent concussion. However, Mike Shanahan plays every week like he is on the hot seat. So in reality, Shanahan is looking to win now, as opposed to what is best for RG3 and the organization.

7-9

The Redskins were 5-11 last year and will go 7-9 this year. They will improve but still be guarding the basement in their division.

RG3 Won’t Help

It is very easy to see that RG3 will be a bust for the Redskins. First of all, they gave up more first round picks than anyone in recent memory, and they did not even get the first overall pick. Eli Manning has lead the Giants to two Super Bowl victories, and the Giants did not give up as much. It would be one thing if the Redskins got Andrew Luck, but they are settling for the second best. There are plenty of bust quarterbacks picked at the top like JeMarcus Russell and Akili Smith. The odds of the Redskins getting a gem of an offensive player are slim, as looked at by their recent history.

The bottom line is that the Redskins are in a bad situation, and are relying on someone who looks good on paper to carry their franchise. Maybe the Redskins will win a playoff game by 2020.

Bonehead Benching Move by Shanahan Costs Skins Win Vs. Lions

So, if you haven’t already heard by now, the Redskins lost to the Lions 37-25 on Sunday. And the thing that caused it? Well credit that to their coach.

Mike Shanahan decided to yank Donovan McNabb from the game down six points with 1:50 left in the fourth quarter. Rex Grossman, yes, the Rex Grossman, or Sexy Rexy as some affectionately call him, entered the game. And the unthinkable happened! But not really. Grossman fumbled on his first snap as he got drilled on a blindside sack courtesy of Ndamukong Suh, who proceeded to pick up the ball and return it for a touchdown.

Redskins guard Kory Lichtensteiger is absolutely hysterical in his response to McNabb’s absence on the field. “We were kind of questioning what was going on. But that’s not our job, to figure out what the coaches were thinking.”

Yes, Mr. Lichtensteiger (wicked awesome last name by the way), that isn’t your job to figure out what your coach is thinking. Leave that to the rest of us. Still, I don’t know what he was thinking either. Does anyone? If you do, please tell me.

Shanahan’s brilliant justification was because of the complexities of the two-minute offense. He didn’t feel McNabb was competent enough in that facet of their offense. Wait, but Grossman is? Didn’t you get McNabb to address the quarterback problem on this team? There has to be a better explanation!

McNabb isn’t a newby to the game of football. He’s been studying the Redskins offense for seven months now, ever since he was traded. So what’s the problem Shanahan? Is your system too complex for him? Are your coaches just poor teachers? Why sit him in the crucial minutes of a game when he’s been playing throughout the entire game? And I thought Brad Childress’ coaching decisions were dumb…

McNabb has had issues in the two-minute offense before, as evidenced by the lackadaisical approach he took in the Super Bowl against the Patriots with the Eagles trailing in the waining minutes. Even so, I think one could make the case that Grossman is not much better.

I know a lot of Redskin fans are calling for McNabb’s head right now, but he is the team’s best shot at quarterback. Where would they be with yet another year of Jason Campbell or Bears castoff Grossman? Look on the bright side. The team is 4-4, good enough for a tick behind the second place spot in the NFC East.

Shanahan’s benching of McNabb proved that he doesn’t have full trust in the quarterback he traded to get. So what now, Shanahan? Are you going to put Grossman in the game on every two-minute drive with the game on the line? What’s the plan? We as sane people would love to know.

D-Mac on the Skins: Help or Hindrance

The Redskins have rebuilt this year, in a way. Mike Shanahan is the new head cheese which should serve the Redskins well. He is an excellent coach with a proven track record. Another change is the much-publicized defection of Donovan McNabb from the Eagles to the division-rival Redskins. McNabb is supposedly the man to take the Redskins back to the playoffs, but he is already having injury troubles. One must wonder how far he can take them on a gimpy leg that will probably become worst as the season wears on.

Clinton Portis gets help in the running game this year in Larry Johnson and Willie Parker. It’s pretty evident that they need it, as the Redskins were on of the worst rushing teams last year. All three of these guys are past their prime, so it’s difficult to see how much they can actually contribute. Then there’s the injury history to consider as well.

The combo of Shanahan and McNabb should serve well. As long as they can shut Albert Haynesworth up or ship him out, they should be serviceable on defense as they were last year. McNabb has a playmaker in Santana Moss that should be exciting to watch.

In the end I think the Redskins will be a vicinity with the Eagles. They will finish 9-7, unless McNabb has a couple more tricks up his sleeve.

Redskins Are Predicted to Finish in Third place in the NFC East

In the next few weeks leading up to the beginning of the 2010 NFL season, I will be making predictions for every division in both conferences. I am starting off with the always tough NFC East, where every team in the division has a chance to be over .500. I am starting off with who will finish last in the division and work my way up to the division winner.

3. Washington Redskins: The Redskins aren’t playing around this season. They have a new head coach in Mike Shanahan, a new starting quarterback in Donovan McNabb, two new running backs to go with the already great Clinton Portis in Willie Parker and Larry Johnson. The Redskins were the joke of the NFL last season and they are making sure this season that it won’t happen again. The only position the Redskins didn’t make improvements in and they should have is the wide receiver position. The only somewhat reliable receiver they have is Santana Moss. Do not forget about tight end Chris Cooley, he will probably be McNabb’s main target throughout the season. McNabb made things work on the Eagles for years without big name receivers so the Redskins do not have to worry too much.
I think this team is going to be a run oriented team anyways. Shanahan is known for having the best running backs when he was with the Broncos. On top of that Shanahan coached Portis for a few years on the Broncos before he was traded to the Redskins. I expect the Redskins to spread the ball out to all three running backs because Portis and Parker are known to get injured, maybe with a lesser load they will all be fresh and thrive. Saying all of this I think the Redskins still need another season to become a playoff team. I think they will be 8-8 this season.

Running Back Frenzy

It has been a busy off-season for the Washington Redskins, which is centered on the acquisition of Donovan McNabb. Some think that McNabb will lead the Redskins to new heights, but it is difficult to think this is true because he will not have too much to work with. From a coaching perspective, Mike Shanahan is at the top. The offensive line is garbage, and the wide receiving core is past their prime.

But Redskins fans are hoping that their running backs will produce. On paper, a running back trio comprised of Clinton Portis, Larry Johnson, and Willie Parker looks good. But in reality, it is not. After some productive seasons, Willie Parker does not provide too much. And, injuries always come into question. With Larry Johnson, the risk has essentially no reward to lead to. He only averaged 3.3 yards per carry last year, and is absolutely a team distraction. Portis is a good player, but is coming off of a bad injury, and is aging a little bit, in terms of running-back standards.

The Redskins will certainly be a better team this year. At the very least, Donovan McNabb will provide a spark. But in reality, he has big names to hand off the ball to. That doesn’t mean those players will produce.
