Chiefs NFL Draft

The Kansas City Chiefs did fairly decent in this years draft. They have brought a new taste of players to the chiefs to spark up the team. They started by drafting Eric Fisher an OT out of central Michigan. Fisher was the number one overall pick, he will most likely slide in to left or right tackle depending on Brandon Albert’s play. The chiefs didn’t get a pick in the second round but in the third they had two picks. They chose Travis Kelce a TE out of Cincinnati, and Knile Davis the running back from Arkansas. In the fourth round they chose another player from Arkansas LB Nico Johnson. Nico has a pretty good shot at being the starting Line Backer if he plays his cards right. In the fifth round of the draft the chiefs went with a CB, Sanders Commings out of Georgia. In the ending of the Draft the chiefs went with FB Braden Wilson out of Kansas, and DE Mike Catapano out of Princeton.

The chiefs also went with a bunch of free agents.

Time To Boo

Brady Quinn isn’t exactly the answer. The Chiefs may have to look to the draft to get a quarterback. They cannot expect Charles to rush for 200 yards every game to carry the offense.

7-9

The Chiefs were 7-9 last year and will go 7-9 this year. They overachieved last year but are improving, and thus on-paper will remain the same.

King of the Cassel

What is there to say about the Chiefs? Aside from the Buccaneers, they could be the worst team in football this year. The one-year wonder Matt Cassel is at the helm again and this time… he is pretty much in the same predicament as last year. He had that one great year in New England filling in for the injured Tom Brady and wanted an opportunity  to start. He got that wish, though he probably has some regrets considering the situation he is in now with the Chiefs.

Now that Larry Johnson is gone, their running back situation is wide open. There isn’t one back in the depth chart that sticks out. Their top receivers are Dwayne Bowe and Chris Chambers. Their defense is one of the worst in the league in every category. Want me to say something positive about this squad? The way they are currently constructed makes it very difficult, so… sorry but I can’t. The Chiefs will finish the year at 3-13.

Source: Chiefs, Jones sign 2-year deal

Kansas City signed running back Thomas Jones to a two-year deal worth $5 million, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The Chiefs announced the deal Tuesday but declined to disclose the terms.

Jones was released by the Jets last week after being due a $3 million roster bonus on top of a $2.8 million base salary this season. He and the Jets failed to reach a compromise on restructuring his contract; the team wanted him to take a pay cut.

Jones wasn’t the only running back on Kansas City’s radar. After spending Tuesday with the Washington Redskins, Pittsburgh Steelers free-agent running back Willie Parker was scheduled to visit the Chiefs on Thursday, a league source told Schefter, but the trip was canceled when Jones entered the fold.

The Chiefs also met with Justin Fargas on Tuesday, according to a league source.

Chiefs Secondary Has Been Exposed With Big Plays

Win or lose, the Chiefs have a problem that doesn’t seem to be going away. They know their defense has a hard time stopping big plays, and the bigger problem is that other teams have begun to notice, too.

And unless the Chiefs get it under control, opponents might spend the next five weeks picking on their increasingly worrisome secondary.

“We will get beat,” coach Todd Haley said this week, a day after San Diego ripped through the Chiefs defense in a 43-14 win.

The Chargers appeared to shape their offensive game plan with the notion of attacking the secondary in mind, and it worked — and kept working against a defense that has tried many options but can’t seem to get past its overmatched personnel and persistent injuries.

Before the Chiefs get to those final five contests in a season that seems as much about education as anything, they have at least learned that perhaps their top offseason need lies at safety.

Johnson released by Chiefs

Larry Johnson’s record-breaking career as a Kansas City running back is over.

The Chiefs confirmed Monday that they had run out of patience with his off-the-field problems and released Johnson the day he was due to come back from his second suspension in a year.

Johnson, who turns 30 on Nov. 19, was just 75 yards away from breaking Priest Holmes’ team rushing record.

The decision by the Chiefs (1-7) was not a surprise.

“A part of him is excited and a part of him is very regretful,” Johnson’s agent, Peter Schaffer, told The Associated Press. “There’s a lot of feelings going on right now. It’s analogous to breaking up with a girlfriend. Maybe you saw it coming, but it still hurts when it happens.”
